CHRISTIAN E. HILDEBRANDT has focused his career over the past twenty years in representing municipalities and other governmental authorities, particularly mass transit authorities, in all matters of litigation and contracting. He has represented governmental agencies in, among other things, automobile negligence claims, No-Fault litigation and worker's compensation matters. In addition, Mr. Hildebrandt has represented the County of Oakland in matters arising out of employment, allegations of discrimination and judicial complaints, and has defended allegations of takings and complex §1983 actions.
Mr. Hildebrandt has also negotiated contracts for authorities and dealt specifically with general litigation matters arising out of regulatory considerations and Constitutional issues.
Mr. Hildebrandt practices in all courts in the State of Michigan, and has argued several matters in the Court of Appeals and the Michigan Supreme Court. He regularly practices in the federal system and has several major victories in the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, Ohio. He frequently appears in the worker's compensation bureaus throughout the state, and is familiar with the local rules and procedures in all of these venues. His experience lies in pretrial, trial and appellate work.
Mr. Hildebrandt has carved a unique niche with a specialty knowledge on the intersection and overlap between the WDCA and No-Fault statutes, and is experienced in representing self-insured employers and insurers in both the Courts and bureaus simultaneously. Mr. Hildebrandt represents real estate brokers and non-medical professionals in claims for alleged malpractice in their professions. He also serves as general counsel for a number of small businesses and non-profits in Southeastern Michigan.
Mr. Hildebrandt is a Partner with Vandeveer Garzia and has been with the firm since 1992. He graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with an undergraduate degree in 1985 (A.B., Economics) and received his law degree, with honors, from Wayne State University Law School in 1992. He was admitted to the Michigan bar in 1992, and followed that with various bar admissions in the state and Federal courts. In 1993, he was admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, and was further admitted to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1994. Other admissions include the U.S. District Court, Western District of Michigan (1996) and the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Court (1999).
Mr. Hildebrandt represents some of the largest self-insured entities and governmental agencies in the Metropolitan Detroit area. He represents both municipalities and private companies alike. He also works on behalf of insureds through policies held by CNA, AIG, and Fidelity and Guaranty among others.
