JAMES L. McCOY is an Associate Attorney with Vandeveer Garzia, P.C. His current focus includes: defense litigation in personal injury, first-party automobile claims, third-party automobile negligence, premises liability and general negligence matters. James defends both individuals and various national clients, including major insurance carriers throughout the State of Michigan.
In 2012, James graduated from Alma College where he earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and History. James received his Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy in 2017. While in law school, James gained experience by representing misdemeanor defendants in district court through the Detroit Mercy Law Criminal Trial Clinic. He was an Associate Director for the Moot Court Board of Advocates and represented UDM at the William E. McGee National Civil Rights Moot Court Competition in Minneapolis. James served as Secretary for the Murphy (Student) Chapter of the Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers; he was a pupil in the American Inns of Court; a recipient of the Dean’s Scholarship for Excellence and he earned multiple Book Awards for academic distinction.
James joined Vandeveer Garzia, P.C. in 2015 as a Law Clerk. In 2017, he was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan and accepted an Associate Attorney position with the firm. James is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers.
